You have to rinse your mouth and hands before approaching the deity.

People waft the smoke over their head to catch the blessings of the deity or burn away impurities.
If I do this in Kwan Yin Teng (or Goddess of Mercy Temple), I'm die because I can't breath.
Too many smoke la.

Omikuji, good luck, bad luck. These white stripe papers are bad fortunes. If you draw a good fortune, keep it , take it home with you. But if it's bad, leave it at the shrine, don't take it home. The concept is "leave the bad luck at the shrine, the divine spirit can exorcise it".
